+[* 1] SLRs have one major advantage over point and shoot cameras; they have exchangeable lenses. Different lenses allow for different picture settings. For example, a telephoto lens allows photos to be taken from great distance. The Sigma lens shown is excellent for extreme close ups.
+[* 1] The range that photos can be taken at with the Sigma lens is much closer than any "Point and Shoot" camera would be capable of, and the same goes for the quality of the photo taken.
