Duplicating guides, inlining, titling...

I want to have different versions of guides, the only difference being that some of the prerequisite guides are different.

The way prerequisites are handled now is a bit too undeveloped.

- Inlining prerequisite guides however does not pull in the title of the sections-guides.

- plus, inlining destroys the section structures that we so painstakingly create in the first place.

- Even ifixit currently uses small guides to create sections; abandoning step title altogether in favor of guide titles being rendered as section titles.

Is there wa way to actually duplicate a guide including all the prerequisites/ sections just as they are?

I tried it with API, but failing so far. Should it be possible with API or is it a vain exercise?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi Filip -

Yes, the API is definitely the best option at this point for an efficient way to create a clone of an existing guide (while keeping the existing prerequisite guide structure intact in the new guide). I think we may be able to help create some example scripts to make this easier for you if you're running into this need consistently. We're also looking to make a more robust guide duplication tool in the future - but it's not yet on the roadmap.

Cheers,

Eric

If there is solution created with API, appreciate sharing with rest as this is very much requested by many customers.

Indeed. At this stage I didn't make it work, but I'm sure to come back to it, and I'll post when it's done.
